Aqua Timber produces environmentally-friendly wood products using “old-growth” timbers recovered from the depths of Georgian Bay, the Great Lakes and other waterway’s throughout North America. The timber that we recover began growing between 1000 and 1500 AD and was harvested from the 1850s to the early 1900s. When you include the last 150 years that it has spent below the water’s surface our wood ranges between 500 to 1,000 years old.

Through a natural process, the cold, clean, relatively oxygen-free waters of North America has perfectly preserved these timbers and actually improved upon nature’s work by washing away the bio-matter in the cells and replacing it with water. Once the timber is recovered, sawn into lumber and dried the water is removed. As a result, the millions of cells that have now become hollow create a unique structural and sound quality in the wood and the mineral stain or “tint” left behind by this process produces a colour in the wood that cannot be duplicated today.

Manufacturers and end-users alike appreciate the versatility that “old-growth” lumber provides. The use of our product, whether in veneer or solid form, transforms good projects into great projects!

All products are environmentally-friendly and certified authentic by ring dating and dendrochronology when required. Dendrochronology or tree-ring dating, is the scientific method of dating trees based on the analysis of their growth-ring patterns.
